Coming in 2025 to The ADog Blog
So, first things first, I’m currently in the middle of my first season, entitled Welcome to my World. Seasons on this Blog will generally operate from September-October to June with at least July and August being me on hiatus from this thing. Ergo, and thus, this current season will conclude at the end of June 2025, Pride Month (Hint-Hint). Then, on a date in September or October, my second season will launch. The current Working Title is The Cynical Aspie, which intends to bring The Analytical Aspie to the forefront of this Blog. More details on the theme and the final official title will be announced in due course.
Before that, believe me when I say that I haven’t been deliberately ignoring the fact that I have two other sections that are currently empty. My vision for this season was intended on prioritising The Aspie since the theme was introducing myself as a person with autism and what I’m interested in, which is quite a lot! The Curious Aspie and The Analytical Aspie will both be making appearances at some point before this season ends. In the former, expect to see some explanations for some of the craziest video titles ever from a Gordon Ramsay YouTube channel. While in the latter, expect to see me tear apart an episode of an ancient BBC documentary series for being an early example of car crash television, before it even became a popular term. And that might just be for starters!
Meanwhile, on my Social Media pages, the theme of sharing what I’m interested in will continue with two weekly shoutouts! The first is for YouTube Videos that catch my attention, before I instantly bookmark for reference and binge over and over again. Expect old and new, irrespective of rhyme or relevance. Details on what kind of videos you can expect me to promote will flow from my next post in this section. The second will be for Articles I read across mainstream publications that again, I bookmark for reference and consider worth sharing. I don’t really have a hard rule of thumb except that it must be well-written, make good arguments that I might echo myself and not contain any obvious mistakes or misinformation that make me wince in the same way I crease when I hear phrases like ‘woke mind-virus’ and ‘Aspie Supremacy’… Or anything Elon Musk says about anything! Also, don’t forget that my Direct Messages are always open but please make sure you read the Information & Contact Me section first so you know what I can and cannot entertain.
Finally, I’ve mentioned that I have a lot of potential visions for this Blog. However, for any of them to come true, I need to go back to college and study Journalism at some point. The reason why is because there are three key areas I need to address, especially with some of the topics I would like to branch into. The first is Research Skills. I need to learn how to research anything properly without relying on apps like Ground News. The second is being able to Interview anyone without coming across as Judge Judy. While I find her brashness refreshing and ability to cut through emotional hyperbole efficient, I find it doesn’t always work when you’re trying to challenge a controversial public figure on the rhetoric they spout, a perfect example being Piers Morgan the first time he interviewed Andrew Tate. Therefore, learning how to interview without relying on that style too much will certainly help me, especially if I’m in a pinch or struggling to navigate difficult conversations with tricky customers.
Speaking of difficult conversations, the third and final thing I would love to work on as part of a course in Journalism is how to talk about topics that evoke a lot of emotion with empathy, while at the same time, not being led up the garden path. As mentioned in a previous post, empathy is an emotion that isn’t impossible for me to learn but it’s also an emotion that I find incredibly difficult to express personally. And when you’re interviewing people who are opening up about moments in their life that bring out a lot of emotion, it’s definitely not a time to be a cold-faced sceptic, even if your job is to filter out the emotions and accomplish a story that people want to read. Which makes striking the balance between these two competing interests something I’m going to need to get to grips with. And the only way I can see it happening is through a course in Journalism.
But what would it realistically allow me to branch into, topics wise? Well… You might have seen some subtle nudges between the lines of certain posts but basically, if there’s one area I would want to major in as a journalist, it’s Social Affairs with a speciality in Disability. Not only does that give me a broad scope, but it’s also quite apt considering I have one myself, albeit hidden from plain sight. And that would be where I would want to take this Blog: In the direction of giving my two cents on social issues that matter to me but most of the time regarding Autism and disability as a whole. However, that’s a long-term, lofty ambition that’s going to need a lot of time to fulfil.
The immediate future, however, is much more clear-cut. Join me on January 12th and January 26th (subject to change) as I discuss my tastes in YouTube, good and bad. What kind of content tickles my fancy and who makes me run for the hills? In the meantime, if you have any advice for how I can sustain my goal of consistency beyond 2025, please let me know in the comments below or in DMs on Social Media. Look out for my new BlueSky page from January 1st and always remember that I am The Aspie, speaking by myself, for myself. Unlike Autism Speaks.
And thank you so much for reading my Blog so far. I hope you enjoy what I present for your reading pleasure over the next year and hopefully beyond.
