The Aspie #7 – Being Confused about… Console Games

Consoles were all the rage when I was growing up. Unfortunately, I only had access to one. That wasn’t part of the Console Wars.

Moving right along… Another Christmas, I started obtaining Professor Layton games, starting with Lost Future and The Spectre’s Call (that’s what they are called in Europe by the way). I then found Pandora’s Box, The Curious Village, The Azran Legacy and The Miracle Mask gradually in CEX. In fact, CEX will be a regular occurrence for the rest of this page!

The next collection is probably what you were hoping I would touch upon since it’s all about Nintendo in this post, and that’s Pokémon. It all started with the original Diamond Version for many years before I introduced myself to Generation V in Black and White. Platinum and Pearl were found in CEX years later to complete Generation IV.

When the 3DS came into my life, I naturally purchased X and Y for Generation VI and Sun and Moon for Generation VII. Black 2 and White 2 were found in CEX to complete Generation V.

CEX also housed remakes HeartGold and SoulSilver and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which I seized the opportunity to purchase and give me a taste of Pokémon’s past brought into the present.

Outside of Pokémon, I have also played many Puzzle Games, something I haven’t forgotten about on Mobile. One Christmas, my mother purchased Nintendo Presents: Crossword Collection. I was sceptical at first but… I grew to like it! It had three modes:

  • Crosswords in Aqua with a special themed Crossword at the bottom of each page upon completion of all other Crosswords.
  • Wordsearches in Yellow with two modes, Small and Large.
  • Anagrams in Purple, where the goal is to find all the words on a list using the one set of letters.

Speaking of Puzzles, I’ve also played Puzzler’s (the Puzzle Magazine) collection of Nintendo DS games: Puzzler World, Puzzler World 2011 and Puzzler World 2013. There was also a 2012 version, but it was for the 3DS only (which I was too late to the party to purchase) and I can’t quite find a copy unless Amazon holds one second-hand somewhere. I’m also glad I played them because I never knew there were so many different puzzles out there! And if you were to look at my whole collection, there will be games dedicated to puzzles and mini games amongst the lot.

The rest is made up of… The first LEGO Batman, the DS version of The Simpsons Game, the SpongeBob SquarePants game Frantic Fry Cook, the DS version of Truth or Square and Mario Kart DS, celebrating its 20th anniversary next year! I also had Mario Kart 7 pre-installed on my 3DS, but the DS version is always my preference out of those two, especially the Balloon Battle mode where I tend to go abrasive and nuts with only one balloon and seeing how that goes (which is usually 50:50, even with seven Easy CPUs in the field)!
